Thankful
It’s been a busy day of following up from a fantastic Grand Opening of Mercy Road yesterday morning. Hundreds worshiped and studied Scripture, many made bold decisions for Christ, and our team couldn’t have been much more excited! Here’s a heart-pounding, awe inspiring video of the progression of Mercy Road this past year, including a few shots of yesterday’s Grand Opening.
Take a moment and join me in thanking God for such a great start to Mercy Road. It’s incredible to ...
Enjoy tomorrow!
I don’t really understand the expression “the calm before the storm”. Think about it, when there’s a giant storm coming are most people calm? If a hurricane is on it’s way, people aren’t sitting pool side sipping iced tea…they’re preparing! When there’s a storm brewing in your life, are you relaxed about it until it hits? Or are you chaotically trying to get ready for the storm. I remember in 1999 before Y2K (remember that!) people were buying necessities ...
What can I expect this Sunday?
The Grand Opening for Mercy Road is this Sunday! After more than a year of implementing the vision, mission, and discipleship…we’re now ready to launch the worship experience! A lot of people have asked me if I’m nervous for the Grand Opening. The truth is I’m not. We’ve been preparing for a while.
Here’s what to expect this Sunday:
1. An extremely relaxed and fun atmosphere. Normal people, having normal conversations. We may even be ...
I love it when a plan comes together!
I grew up watching the A-team. To this day when I hear the theme song I want to take action. You know, grab a #2 pencil and magically turn it into an explosive device that would divert any M.P.’s coming after me. By divert, I mean blow their car up….without harming any of them.
I still haven’t watched the movie since it came out. I guess I’m worried it would ruin a fond memory ...
My Biggest Temptation: Part II – Get Bold. Get Weird.
Boldness is a word that has resonated with us at Mercy Road from day one. In fact, the early leader for a church name was actually Moxie Church. Moxie means to have guts or boldness. Some thought it was “girly”, but I loved the message of bold faith being central to who we are. I’m glad we didn’t go with Moxie Church (although I own the domain names if you want to buy them!:) ), but the message of bold ...
My Biggest Temptation
I talk a lot about changing the world, making a difference, and utilizing our time, talents, and treasures for God’s purposes. I’m in ministry to see life change. Pure and simple. I have no interest in “managing a church” like you would a fun club. I’ve always been in ministry (as a career) because of a calling by God…and all I want to do is see people impacted by the very real power and presence of God (through ...
The Pride of Life
Confession time. I have a daily struggle with pride. This isn’t a new struggle. The older I get the more I realize the issue has always been there. It’s deep-seeded in my ambition to tackle life head on. I find a bit of my self-worth in knowing the right answers and being “successful”. Most of you probably know this struggle too.
I don’t think I come across as an overly arrogant or self-centered person, but it’s a real daily battle. ...

I have a quick personal post. I really believe the apathetic faith of most suburban Christians is directly linked to an unwillingness to be uncomfortably close to following in Christ’s footsteps. We like a relationship with God until we’re asked to do something we don’t want to. Real discipleship happens when we’re willing to give up our time, talents, and treasures to further God’s purposes in life, rather than our own.
I even shared recently that I made Lisa go ...
September 25 is almost here!
We’re less than 3 weeks away from the Grand Opening of Mercy Road. There’s a lot of excitement, prayer, boldness, anxiety, insecurity, and passion for Christ going around the team right now. It’s a busy few weeks in preparing for the event. A lot of people ask what I do during the week Here’s a picture of a lot of what I do.
I make to do lists. Long ones. I plan, pray, and ...
I’ve been dealing with guilt and I know I’m not the only one…
Last Sunday we wrestled with being uncomfortably close to Christ. There is more to life than suburban, apathetic pursuit of Jesus’ mission. I realized one reason many of us aren’t as passionate is because we’re weighed and slowed by guilt. Very few people ever feel they’re passionate or bold enough in their pursuit of a life with Christ.
I spent a number of hours this week at the BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicles for my West Coast friends!). While I was ...
