Freedom
We recently finished a teaching series at Mercy Road called “Love that Lasts”. We tackled issues head on like dating, marriage, sex, and marital dissension…but one issue we didn’t get to was sexual abuse. This morning I read the horrific story of a man whose father sexually abused his younger sibling until he told his father to stop, offering himself instead. After two years of abuse, the young man left his home. He has since battled many years of mounting ...
Fight the Fight
I don’t know if it’s my stage of life or whether it’s the exposure to real life issues you find in hands-on-ministry, but more and more I realize relationships in every capacity are difficult. Especially romantic/domestic ones. Over the years I’ve talked with SO MANY people who are experiencing difficulty in their relationships. By difficulty I mean fights. Angry, loud, passive aggressive fights. They usually have one thing in common…they feel alone. Like there’s something wrong with them or their ...
Sunday at Cool Creek Park
Time: Sunday, May 27 at 10:15 AM
Where: 2000 East 151st Street, Carmel, IN 46033 (Cool Creek Park – Nature Center)
I can’t wait for this Sunday! I know I’m supposed to say that, but I’m looking forward to bbq’ing and hanging outside with you all. We’re worshiping at our normal time (10:15 AM), but we’re going to be meeting at the Cool Creek Park Nature Center (with indoor auditorium – so it’s rain or shine). Then we’re ...
Loving Boldness Leads to Respect
One of my favorite chapters in the Bible over the past year has become Acts 4. When we think of the early Church we often focus on Acts 2, but it’s chapter 4 where the fun really starts happening. The Holy Spirit has already been given, the Church has expanded (to thousands of people), and for the first time Peter and John are facing real trouble. They’re taken before the Jewish, ruling authorities (the Sanhedrin) and are on trial. Their ...
I Wanna Be Like Barbie!
I can’t believe we’re having a baby girl in June. Our house is going to have dolls, tutus, and Barbie’s! I know what you’re thinking, just get a shotgun now. Prepare for the inevitable day she grows up and starts dating. The thought of her dating does scare me, but I have an even greater fear. From day one she’s going to be inundated with images, words, and entire advertising campaigns that confirm her fears: she’ll only be ...
Moved by Mercy Kids!
I’ve never been more moved by what’s happening with our Children’s Ministry! Last Sunday we challenged the kids to invite friends to start a new older elementary age class through 6th grade. I told them if they had 20 elementary age kids show up, I’d let them dye my hair. They were so excited! One girl invited her whole class at school. An 8 year old boy went DOOR-TO-DOOR in his neighborhood inviting kids! We had new kids ...
Lion tries to eat boy!
Thanks to my friend Jeff Snodgrass for sharing this video. There’s probably an illustration in the boy dressing like a zebra in front of a hungry lion, but I’ll let you tell me your best idea. Check it out:
Post your thoughts and whoever comes up with the best idea for what this video might illustrate, I’ll share it on a Sunday morning…Or maybe even have you share it . Ready, go!
Pray for my hair or hearts…your choice!
Apparently this could be me after this Sunday:
If 20 or more elementary age kids show up to Mercy Road this Sunday (5/6), I’m going to let the kids die my hair pink and purple! I don’t know how this even came up to be honest with you. Did I ask my wife? No. Good thing I have the coolest wife and she’ll probably just a get a kick out of this. Good for her ...
Tough questions for your relationships and romance.
We had another great Sunday with Mercy Road yesterday! Every week I leave a bit more excited. There are so many mission projects and communities forming outside of the worship experience that I spend all week wanting to thank God for the commitment and boldness of so many of you!
On Sunday, I talked about having relationships with purpose and I shared the most important thing in a healthy marriage or dating life from a Christian perspective…that your relationships are ...
Love that Lasts
I had a much appreciated day off Monday (after a fantastic Easter), so we took our son Jake to the Children’s Museum here in Indianapolis. It was a blast. Check out Jake working it in the “ScienceWerks” area:
While we were there Lisa mentioned she was getting cold and asked if she could borrow my sweatshirt. So being the loving, God-fearing man that I am I asked my pregnant wife why she didn’t bring her own sweatshirt. Should I ...
